フロリダ州立大学の人類学部閉鎖！？

関係者の話によれば50年以上の歴史を持つフロリダ州立大学　（Florida State University）の人類学プログラムの廃止が決定したようです。同プログラムでは過去船舶・海事考古学関連のプログラムが提供されていました。卒業生はフロリダ州の水中文化遺産保護に貢献してきた他、世界各地の発掘調査に関わってきました。海事考古学が目新しいプログラムでなくなった現在、欧米の研究機関では専門性を高めると共に、新たな研究テーマの開拓にも取り組む必要に迫られています。プログラムの重要性と価値をいかに大学と共有するかいった問題も絡んできます。

Twenty-one degree progams at The Florida State University, including the
Department of Anthropology, are on the chopping block. The department chair has been told to not accept any graduate students for 2009-2010. This
department has existed for over 50 years, and its archaeologists have
conducted cutting edge work on sites such as Windover, several 17th century
Spanish missions, numerous shipwrecks, and established the first underwater
archaeology program in the state of Florida, not to mention renowned work
throughout Mesoamerica.
